Our first Vancouver screening – Can’t Stop the Serenity 2011!

by Joanna on June 23rd, 2011

I am so excited to announce our first Vancouver screening of Standard Action, which is a very special event, given that the show is produced and created in Vancouver, and all of our cast and crew are from the city and the ‘burbs. So if you’re going to be in Vancouver this weekend and you’d like to see a few episodes of Martin, Wendy, Fernando and Edda on the big screen, come out to CSTS this Saturday, June 25th. The festivities start at 11am, doors open at 10:30! Learn more at http://serenityscreeningvan.blogspot.com/.

Just to let you know a bit about this very cool event: CSTS stands for Can’t Stop the Serenity, and it’s an annual screening of the sci-fi cult phenomenon Serenity to raise money for Equality Now and BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre Foundation. Come see a fantastic movie and support a fantastic couple of charities at the same time! Not only will Joss Whedon’s classic film be playing, but so will ‘Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog’, as well as selections from local webseries ‘Mind My Brains, Darling.’ (http://higletfilms.com/) And a bit of Standard Action, of course. :) A costume contest, evil laugh contest and Firefly trivia and bingo round out the days activities. Door prizes, a silent auction and grab bags are all ways you can bring home some sweet nerd swag.

There will be quite a few of our cast and crew there: Associate Producer and Costume Designer Vanessa Driveness will definitely be there, as will I. (I’ve also been asked to judge the costume contest! Wheee!) I’ve heard whispers from Tara (Gwenevere) and Edwin (Fernando) that they may also make appearances, as well as Nicole (Trixie/Kev the hobgoblin) – though you may not recognize her without her prosthetic makeup and green skin. :)

I also have a very special last word on this particular announcement – we’ve decided to make CSTS 2011 the premiere venue for Episode 10! So, if you’d like to take a look at Episode 10 just a bit before everyone else gets to, come out and check it out at the MacMillan Space Centre. For everyone else, no worries, we’ll do our best to have the episode available online by the end of the day on Saturday.

Hope to see you there!
